The object's story and details
A decorated hen stands before a cauldron over a fire. The papier-mâché picture starts from the Romanian proverb “an old hen makes a good soup”, turning the words into a recognisable scene.
Bird and cauldron bring together the saying’s humour and the idea of experience accumulated over time. The relief gives substance to this small domestic scene, taking a familiar saying quite literally.
