The object's story and details
A figure holds apples on one side and pears on the other, arms spread wide. With fruit modelled in papier-mâché, the work illustrates a Romanian saying about a gain cancelled out by another expense: “what I earn on apples, I spend on pears”.
The arms bring both fruits into one field of view, almost like a balance. Volume retains the expression’s wordplay and an image of exchange in which what comes in on one side leaves on the other.
Dimensions: 31 × 28 cm
